Bleeding gums – a factor that should not be neglected

Many people complain of bleeding gums. Often we don’t react to it and hope the bleeding will go away. This can be a sign of a vitamin deficiency, poor oral hygiene or even a gum disease, so it is important not to neglect it.

Bleeding gums can be caused by:

  1. Vitamin B12 deficiency;
  2. Poor oral care – brushing for too short a period of time, not cleaning up food debris or using a brush that is too hard.
  3. Intensive use of medicines.
  4. Dental calculus.
  5. Periodontal disease is a disease that promotes tooth loss.

All of these can cause bleeding gums, but there are many other additional causes in addition to these that can cause it. Therefore, it would be best to consult a dentist who will assess the condition of your mouth and try to discover the causes of bleeding.

Knowing the cause of bleeding gums makes it much easier to look for ways to fight the disease and not only reduce the bleeding, but also possibly eliminate it completely. There may be many reasons, but your dentist can find out the real cause. Identifying the cause is important because it could be the result of one of the gum diseases.

A few tips can be highlighted that can help treat bleeding gums:

  • – Regular visits to the dentist for check-ups, consultations and oral hygiene are recommended. The aim of professional oral hygiene is to prevent periodontal disease, remove soft and hard plaque (tartar), reduce tooth sensitivity and revitalize the oral cavity.

  • – It is important to choose a toothbrush of the right hardness, as using a hard toothbrush can cause bleeding.

  • – Regular dental care, brushing teeth and tongue 2 times a day for 2 minutes each. Flossing or brushing between the teeth can also help remove food debris and plaque-forming bacteria from hard-to-reach areas.

  • – Try to keep alcohol consumption to a minimum.

  • – If you smoke, it would be a good idea to give up this unpleasant habit.
