Dental implants – is it worth the delay?

Dental implants – is it worth the delay?

For many of us, we take for granted the fear of smiling broadly or taking a bite of food. But for people who have lost some or all of their teeth, it can be a distant dream. Dentist Simonas Bankauskas, founder of the CLINIC | DPC network of dental clinics, firmly believes that “if we cannot relax about our smile, then we will never feel complete”. Although it sounds unbelievable, there are ways to restore a healthy and beautiful smile in just one day, even if you haven’t been able to enjoy it for many years.

Even a single missing tooth can become a problem

What would you do if you lost your front tooth? You would probably go to the dentist as soon as possible to get it restored. First and foremost, for appearance. But if you lose a molar, you don’t rush to replace it, because you can’t see it and you can chew. Dentists warn that missing teeth is not just an aesthetic problem, as delays can lead to serious health problems and psychological challenges. The loss of one or part of a tooth does not lead to more serious problems within a month or a year, but after five years radical atrophy of the jaw begins, which makes the subsequent implant procedure more complicated. The missing tooth is gradually replaced by adjacent teeth. Delaying the restoration of the missing tooth in the place of the one that has fallen out will result in the need to straighten the leaning adjacent teeth later. This procedure will take longer and be more expensive.

Modern dentistry makes it much easier and quicker to deal with lost teeth. A single-moment implant is the restoration of one tooth in just one day. An implant is threaded into the root of the tooth that has just been removed and a temporary tooth is immediately attached to it. “The appearance and function of the temporary tooth is the same as the permanent tooth – it looks nice, and after a few months the temporary tooth is replaced by the permanent one,” says Dr Bankauskas.

“All-on-4” – restoring a full life within 24 hours

The implant surgeon was one of the first in Lithuania to use the “All-on-4” method. “This is a treatment method that restores the teeth of the entire jaw on just four implants. This unique treatment technique is very popular all over the world, including Lithuania. This treatment method, which usually uses the world-leading Nobel Biocare implants, can save patients who have traditionally had uncomfortable removable dentures. This treatment technique is extremely reliable, with long-term studies showing a success rate of around 98%.

“All-on-4” not only avoids complicated bone grafting procedures, but also incredibly shortens the treatment time – the day after the implants are placed, or even the same day, the patient is fitted with a temporary, non-removable but stable denture, and after the healing period, permanent teeth are attached, which can last for the rest of their lives.

This modern implant technique is always individually tailored to each patient. According to S. Bankauskas, “The most important thing is to get to know your patient before drawing up a treatment plan, to take into account their needs, expectations, and general state of health. This creates an individual treatment plan, which determines its effectiveness”.

In describing the advantages of the “All-on-4” method, the doctor emphasizes that implant-supported dentures are completely equivalent to natural teeth – they are stable, fully restore the lost chewing function, and look natural and realistic.
